Presenting "Amorium Urban Survey" at Sofia 07.05.2015

Things are heating up for the 2015 summer field season of Amorium and except preparations for the excavation and the survey, research is also gearing up. In few weeks time we are travelling to Sofia, Bulgaria in order to present our project in a very interesting conference entitled "Town and Country in the Byzantine World: Social and Economic Perspectives" organized by Pavel Murdzhev  and hosted at the American Research Center in Sofia.

The Institute of Mediterranean Studies team will be consisted by the head of the side-project Nikos Tsivikis and our new team member Thanasis Sotiriou, a byzantine historian. We will present a paper entitled: Amorium and its countryside (8th-11th c.): placing a thematic capital in its surroundings and mapping its historical landscape, and we hope that some great discussion will be held around the issues of historical landscape analysis in Byzantium.
